چکیده

Context. High-mass star-forming regions are known to have a rich molecular spectrum from many species. Some of the very highly excited lines are emitted from very hot and dense gas close to the central object(s). Aims. The physics and chemistry of the inner cores of two high mass star forming regions, NGC6334(I) and G327.3-0.6, shall be characterized. Methods. Submillimeter line surveys with the APEX telescope provide spectra which sample many molecular lines at high excitation stages. Results. Partial spectral surveys were obtained, the lines were identified, physical parameters were determined through fitting of the spectra. Conclusions. Both sources show similar spectra that are comparable to that of the only other high mass star forming region ever surveyed in this frequency range, Orion-KL, but with an even higher line density. Evidence for very compact, very hot sources is found.

A cobweb of filaments and protostars

We present high resolution (sub)mm continuum maps obtained with the bolometer UKT14 on the JCMT of the high mass star formation complex NGC 6334 I and I(N), the latter also known as Gezari’s cold source (Gezari 1982). The maps at 1.1 mm and 800 μm cover the whole northern part of the NGC 6334 complex (∼ 5′ × 8′), while the coverage is more limited at 450 μm and 350 μm and centered on NGC 6334 I...

Early Results from SPARO: Instrument Characterization and Polarimetry of NGC 6334

The Submillimeter Polarimeter for Antarctic Remote Observations (SPARO) employs two nineelement arrays of He-cooled bolometers to measure linear polarization at mm. It is operated at the focal l p 450 plane of the Viper telescope, located at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. SPARO obtains better sensitivity to degree-scale polarized submillimeter emission than can be currently achieved wit...

Ionization toward the high-mass star-forming region NGC 6334 I⋆

Context. Ionization plays a central role in the gas-phase chemistry of molecular clouds. Since ions are coupled with magnetic fields, which can in turn counteract gravitational collapse, it is of paramount importance to measure their abundance in star-forming regions. Aims. We use spectral line observations of the high-mass star-forming region NGC 6334 I to derive the abundance of two of the mo...

Compact Centimeter and Millimeter Sources in NGC 6334 I ( N ) : OB Stars in the Making ?

We present sensitive, high angular resolution 1.3 cm and 7 mm observations of the massive core NGC 6334 I(N), a region known to be undergoing massive star formation. At 1.3 cm we detect three sources, of which two had been previously detected at centimeter or millimeter wavelengths. At 7 mm we detect four sources. We suggest that three of these sources are subcomponents of the millimeter source...

Dispersion of Observed Angles of Submillimeter Polarization in Giant Molecular Clouds

We present submillimeter polarimetric observations of the Giant Molecular Cloud (GMC) NGC 6334, obtained using the Hertz instrument at the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory on Mauna Kea. We obtain constraints on GMC magnetic fields by interpreting these Hertz data together with (a) previously published larger-scale submillimeter polarization maps of the GMCs NGC 6334 and G333.6-0.2 obtained usi...
